Review: Studio Kink’s “Introduction to Shibari”
If you're looking to explore the world of Shibari and learn the art of Japanese rope bondage, Studio Kink's “Introduction to Shibari Course” is an excellent place to start. From the moment you take your place in the dojo, you can tell that the instructors are passionate about Shibari and committed to helping you learn the basics.
The course itself is well-structured and easy to follow, with clear explanations and demonstrations of each configuration and technique. You'll start with the basics, such as selecting the right type of rope and learning how to extend your rope strands, and gradually progress to more complex ties and patterns such as single column and the hishi pattern. You’ll also learn the foundational structure of a Takate Kote chest harness, which is expanded upon in great detail in the “Shibari Fundamentals” Course.
One of the things I appreciated most about this course was the emphasis on safety. The instructors took the time to explain the risks involved in Shibari and how to mitigate them, including tips on navigating the anatomy of your rope bottom, and how to read their body language. This made me feel much more confident and comfortable trying out Shibari for the first time, despite having entered the class with the expectation of just being a rope bunny!
Mark Deviate and Karajishi of Studio Kink are also incredibly supportive and responsive. They are always available to answer questions and offer one-on-one feedback on your technique. This level of support and guidance is invaluable for anyone new to Shibari, and I truly felt like I was part of a supportive community of learners.
Overall, I would highly recommend Studio Kink's “Introduction to Shibari” Course to anyone interested in exploring the world of rope bondage. The course is well-organized, informative, and engaging, and the instructors are knowledgeable, passionate, and supportive. Whether you're looking to explore Shibari for personal or professional reasons, this course is an excellent place to start.
